Pine Hutch flip using General Finishes Lamp Black

Happy Monday!! I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend..  We were busy busy busy between field trips and the Country Living Fair (more to come soon on this)!!

So many exciting & super fun things happening over at Fern Avenue that I can't wait to share with you.  And, soon my beauties I promise I will get to share away!

But, first I want to show you this makeover I did using General Finishes Lamp Black milk paint.

I found this hutch a few months ago at our local Habitat ReStore.

On Fern Avenue

When I saw it the top was sitting on the lower part of the hutch/cabinet.  But, I saw something different.  The glass wasn't attached to the doors.  It was filthy... beyond.  Like really gross!

There were scratches and gouges all throughout.  Oh and the bottom cabinets back wasn't even attached so I ripped off what was remaining & gave it a new back!!

This baby was a hot mess...

I gave it a good cleaning and went to work on it.  I knew I wanted to use black paint and so I turned to my General Finishes Lamp Black milk paint.  This paint goes on really smooth, like butter.

I was going to take this from one piece of furniture to TWO...  The top hutch was getting converted into a bookshelf.

I flipped the hutch part over and added a shelf -

And, then legs..

Once the legs were attached I painted them black...

While the legs dried I went to work on the lower cabinet, painted it lamp black.  I then brought out my Modern Masters metallic gold paint.  Ahhhh yes the details...

With my Modern Masters metallic gold paint I added gold arrows to the insides of the doors and one on the sides of the drawer to match the stunning gold arrow hardware.

Once the metallic paint was dry, I sealed the cabinet with a mixture of black wax and gold metallic wax by CeCe Caldwell.

It gave it just the little shimmer to bring out the gold in the hardware...

If you look in the crevice of the door (left side) you can see it, but in person the whole piece just has enough to bring it up to glamorous!!

The bookshelf had gotten coats of Lamp Black while the cabinet was drying.

The bottom shelf also got a bit of charm added to it.  I used this gift wrapping paper & decoupaged it to some some wood and added it to the back... Remember that there was no back (if you look up there at the before picture).

I fixed the glass in the doors and added a little something something to them...

A little glass etching to bring some beauty to the glass...

I think she looks pretty stunning...

  8. Wow, both pieces are really beautiful! Way to think outside the box (or shall we say hutch?!) too, most people would have just put them back together but you made two really cool separate pieces! I love the arrows, those are right up my alley. :o)
